Rubin is a Solicitor in the Criminal Law department at Stokoe Partnership Solicitors. Prior to joining the firm, Rubin was a Director at a large national, predominantly legal aid practice for over 14 years, and has over 20 years of criminal defence experience. Rubin has been consistently recognised as a Leading Lawyer in his field by Chambers UK and the Legal 500.
Rubin has extensive criminal law and procedural experience ranging from road traffic offences to murder, rape, extradition and all serious complex crime including large-scale drug conspiracies.
He is well versed in all matters relating to bribery and corruption investigations and prosecutions conducted by the Serious Fraud Office (SFO) and deals with such matters on a regular basis. Rubin was also part of a team that worked on one of the largest frauds in UK history involving allegations of a price fixing cartel by various drug companies supplying the NHS.
Rubin advises companies seeking comprehensive advice on the Bribery and Corruption Act and has represented individuals at all levels, including CEOs and directors undergoing investigations from the SFO.
Rubin has extensive knowledge of other practice areas such as public law and immigration. His experience includes contested extradition cases involving class 1 and 2 countries, and he is one of a very few number of criminal practitioners with a history of working in immigration as a supervisor, which has assisted him in identifying issues within public law that for judicial review.
Rubin has undertaken numerous high-profile cases during his career, many of which received extensive media coverage. During the London riots in August 2011, Rubin represented a number of the defendants arrested as part of Operation Withern. Other notable cases include Johnson and Others, dealing with the issue of the new joint enterprise ruling from the Supreme Court, and R v RK, a judicial review of the SFO regarding a client’s passport being withheld during an investigation.
Rubin regularly delivers lectures, comments in the press and appears on broadcast radio to give insight on legal matters. He is also a mentor as part of the National Mentoring Scheme and has assisted and supported a number of people over the last four years.
