Commenting in City AM, Partner Richard Cannon discusses the misuse of AI in the legal sector and how this can lead to professional, regulatory and reputational issues for lawyers.

Richard’s comments were published in City AM, 12 June 2025, and can be found here.

“The judiciary’s increasing recognition of AI is overdue but make no mistake, the real threat isn’t the tech – it is those who use it blindly. If you’re signing off on hallucinated case law without checking your work, the problem isn’t artificial intelligence.

“If AI is the scalpel, it’s the surgeon we should be scrutinising.

“For lawyers, the danger is not just embarrassment in open court; it’s regulatory censure, reputational damage, and the erosion of trust in the legal profession itself.”
