Partner Richard Cannon comments on the fraud and financial crime risks posed by stolen personal data, following a cyber attack in which criminals obtained information belonging to Revolut customers.

Richard’s comments were published in City AM, 16 September 2026.

“This incident shows how sophisticated cyber criminals have become, exploiting trusted channels to obtain exactly the kind of personal information that can fuel further financial crime. For fraudsters, stolen identity data can be the keys to the front door. Passports, driving licences and personal details can provide criminals with the tools to impersonate victims, circumvent identity checks and engineer highly convincing scams.

“The reported targeting of VIP customers is particularly concerning, as criminals armed with this information may be able to turn a single data breach into a much wider chain of high-value fraud.”
