Stokoe Partnership Solicitor Ali Hussain successfully defends Hasan Mohamed in the UK’s first ever FGM case

On Wednesday 4th February 2015, Hasan Mohamed was found not guilty of FGM in the UK’s first ever FGM prosecution. Ali Hussain, leading criminal defence solicitor at Stokoe Partnership Solicitors, successfully defended Hasan Mohamed. In a statement, Ali Hussain said:

“Following today’s verdict, I am delighted that my client has been acquitted of FGM. He should not have been prosecuted and the jury’s verdict confirms what he has always said – that he did nothing wrong.

My client has suffered months of stress and the humiliation of talking publicly about intimate aspects of his life. He has also lost precious time with his two young children.

My client strongly believes this case was nothing more than a show trial – an effort by the CPS to regain some confidence after failing to bring a prosecution despite FGM laws being in place since 1985.

My client hopes the CPS will properly review cases in future so that innocent people do not suffer as he has suffered.”

Ali was interviewed on Radio 4’s Today Programme re the FGM case, alongside the CPS’ Director of Public Prosecutions Alison Saunders: http://www.stokoepartnership.com/blog/ali-hussains-interview-on-bbc-radio-4s-today-programme-re-fgm-case-victory/
